URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Winds for Escambia Coastal

Escambia Coastal faces immediate, extreme threats from a Storm Surge Warning, forecasting life-threatening flooding, hurricane-force winds, and major rainfall; residents must shelter immediately and complete all protective actions.

A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, by the National Weather Service Mobile, AL, effective immediately. This extreme alert forecasts life-threatening conditions.

Residents in surge-prone areas must shelter against life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 6 feet above ground. All ordered evacuations should be completed. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from flood zones. If sheltering in place, move to upper floors to escape rising water if necessary. Do not venture outside.

Hurricane-force winds of 75-95 mph, with gusts up to 120 mph, are expected from early this afternoon until early Saturday morning. These are equivalent to a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, posing a threat of extensive damage and power outages. Complete all efforts to protect life and property urgently and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential for a few tornadoes also exists; be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 4-8 inches of rain possible, leading to major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
