A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Escambia Coastal areas, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued the warning at 7:27 AM CDT today, October 9th, and it remains active through Saturday morning.

Residents in affected areas must shelter against life-threatening storm surge flooding, with potential inundation of 6-9 feet above ground. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in safe shelters. If you are unable to evacuate, remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Move to upper floors if water begins to rise.

Hurricane-force winds of 75-95 mph with gusts up to 120 mph are expected to begin early this afternoon and last until early Saturday morning. These winds pose a life-threatening risk. Now is the time to shelter from these winds. Significant rainfall, with an additional 4-8 inches, is also expected, leading to a Flood Watch in effect and potential for major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

For evacuation and shelter information, contact Escambia County EMA at 850-471-6400 or visit myescambia.com/beready. This alert expires at 3:30 PM UTC today.
