Rip Current Warning for Coastal Counties Until Saturday Night
A Dangerous Rip Current Statement is in effect for coastal Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties until late Saturday night, posing significant risks to swimmers.
Coastal residents and visitors in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties are advised of a Dangerous Rip Current Statement in effect immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL has issued this warning until late Saturday night.
Rip currents pose a significant danger, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper waters. The affected areas include Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties in Alabama, and Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties in Florida.
For your safety, the NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, it is crucial to remain calm: relax and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore, wave your arms, and call for help.
This Rip Current Statement was issued today, October 7, at 5:55 PM CDT and is expected to continue through late Saturday night, October 11, at 6:00 AM CDT.
