A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued the alert today, October 7, at 4:03 PM CDT. Residents are urged to finalize preparations as life-threatening conditions are anticipated.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation preparations should be underway, and residents are advised to assemble disaster supplies and know their evacuation routes. Failure to heed potential evacuation orders could result in loss of life.

Equivalent Category 1 Hurricane force winds are expected with peak gusts up to 115 mph. Tropical Storm force winds are forecast to begin Friday afternoon and last until early Saturday morning, with hurricane-force winds also expected during this period. Extensive roof damage, mobile home destruction, and widespread power outages are possible. Efforts to protect life and property should be rigorously underway, and preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous.

Additionally, 4-8 inches of rain with localized higher amounts are expected, potentially causing major flooding. Tornadoes are also possible. Heed all flood watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
