Elko County Gets Two New Ambulances With Federal Funding

Staff Writer
June 12, 2026

Elko County Ambulance Service took delivery of two new ambulances in February 2021, purchased with $400,000 in federal CARES Act funding. RedSky Fire Apparatus delivered the 2020 Ford F-350 Type I ambulances on Feb. 25.

The vehicles include UV light sources, high-efficiency filters and advanced air handling systems designed to reduce disease transmission. The Elko County Commission approved the purchase on Dec. 2, 2020.

Commissioners also approved $127,500 to equip the two new ambulances and one existing ambulance at Jackpot Fire Department with patient cots and power loading systems. The power systems reduce strain on paramedics during patient transport.

The new ambulances replace frontline units purchased in 2013. Commissioners inspected the vehicles on April 21, 2021, before they entered service following a State of Nevada Emergency Medical Systems inspection.
