Elko County Gets 2 New Advanced Ambulances

Staff Writer
June 12, 2026

Elko County Ambulance Service received two new Ford F-350 ambulances in February 2021, equipped with UV light sources, high-efficiency filters and advanced air handling systems to reduce disease transmission.

The Elko County Commission approved $400,000 in federal CARES Act funding for the purchase in December 2020. RedSky Fire Apparatus delivered the ambulances on February 25, 2021. The vehicles entered service after passing Nevada Emergency Medical Systems inspection.

Commissioners approved an additional $127,500 to equip the new ambulances and one existing ambulance at the Jackpot Fire Department with patient cots and power loading systems. The new equipment reduces physical strain on paramedics during patient transport.

The ambulances replace frontline units purchased in 2013. Older, high-mileage vehicles will be retired from the fleet. Commissioners viewed the vehicles at a presentation on April 21, 2021.
