Red Flag Warning Issued for Humboldt, Elko, Eureka, and Lander Counties
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Humboldt, Elko, Eureka, and Lander Counties from 11 AM to 11 PM PDT on Saturday, October 10th, due to critical fire weather conditions including strong winds and low humidity.
Residents in Humboldt County - Quinn, Western Elko County, northern Eureka and Lander Counties north of Interstate 80, Central Elko County, and Eastern Elko County should prepare for critical fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service in Elko has issued a Red Flag Warning, effective from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM PDT on Saturday, October 10th. This warning indicates a high risk of rapid wildfire spread due to strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures.
Key conditions include sustained winds of 15-25 mph today, gusting to 25-30 mph, and increasing to 20-25 mph with gusts up to 35-40 mph on Saturday. Relative humidity will drop to 10-15% today and 20-25% tomorrow. The highest threat for rapid fire spread is anticipated in fire zones 437 (Humboldt County-Quinn) and 469 (Central Elko County) due to active wildfires and high winds.
Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period. Any fires that develop are likely to spread rapidly. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will shortly. These conditions can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
