Red Flag Warning Issued for Humboldt, Elko, Eureka, Lander Counties
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Humboldt, Elko, Eureka, and Lander Counties from Saturday 11 AM to 11 PM PDT due to gusty winds and low humidity, creating critical fire conditions.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Humboldt County (Quinn area), Western Elko County, northern Eureka and Lander Counties north of Interstate 80, Central Elko County, and Eastern Elko County. The National Weather Service in Elko issued the warning today, October 9, at 9:35 AM PDT, effective from 11 AM PDT Saturday, October 10, until 11 PM PDT Saturday, October 10.
Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to gusty winds and low humidity, which will contribute to rapid wildfire spread. Sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected this afternoon, increasing to 20-25 mph with gusts up to 35-40 mph on Saturday. Humidity levels will drop to 10-15% today and 20-25% on Saturday.
The highest threat is in Fire Weather Zones 437 (Humboldt County-Quinn) and 469 (Central Elko County) due to active wildfires in those areas combined with high winds. Any new fires will likely spread rapidly, and existing fires may expand significantly.
Residents are urged to avoid all outdoor burning. A Red Flag Warning signifies that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will occur shortly. These conditions create an environment where fires can exhibit extreme behavior. Stay informed and exercise extreme caution.
