Red Flag Warning: Gusty Winds and Rapid Fire Spread Expected
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Southeastern Humboldt and northern Lander counties from October 9 to October 10 due to gusty winds and low humidity, increasing rapid fire spread risk.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Southeastern Humboldt County and northern Lander County, effective from 11 AM PDT today, October 9, until 11 PM PDT tomorrow, October 10. The National Weather Service in Elko advises against outdoor burning due to critical fire weather conditions.
This warning indicates that strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures are creating an environment where any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Gusts up to 35-40 mph are expected, with sustained winds of 20-25 mph. Humidity levels will be as low as 20-25% on Saturday.
Residents in Fire Weather Zone 424 (Southeastern Humboldt County and northern Lander County) should be aware that high winds may also cause existing wildfires to spread further. The National Weather Service emphasizes that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period.
