Strong Storms Bring 40 MPH Winds, Possible Flooding to Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia
Strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph and potential minor flooding are expected in parts of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia until 9:00 PM EDT. Seek shelter indoors if outside, and avoid driving through flooded roads.
Residents in parts of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia should be prepared for strong thunderstorms moving through the area. A Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL at 8:16 PM EDT, effective until 9:00 PM EDT, warns of wind gusts up to 40 mph and potential minor flooding.
The affected areas include Inland and Coastal Nassau, Coastal and Western Duval, Trout River, Northeastern Charlton, Inland and Coastal Glynn, and Inland and Coastal Camden counties. Doppler radar indicates these storms are tracking northeast at 20 to 25 mph, with strong thunderstorms currently observed near Woodbine and Ratliff.
Impacted locations include St. Marys, Kingsland, Brunswick, Hilliard, Woodbine, Callahan, Jacksonville International Airport, Dock Junction, Kings Bay Base, and Yulee.
If you are outdoors, the NWS advises seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are cautioned to avoid flooded roadways.
