Residents in parts of Clay, Duval, Baker, Nassau, Bradford, and Putnam counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 9:45 PM EDT tonight, October 9, 2026. At 9:14 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Middleburg, moving north at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing landspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Locations that may be impacted include Keystone Heights, Middleburg, Maxville, Oakleaf Plantation, Bellair-Meadowbrook Terrace, Camp Blanding, Cecil Field, Doctors Inlet, Lakeside, and Kingsley.

Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building until the statement expires.
