Tropical Storm Warning for Coastal Wakulla: Life-Threatening Storm Surge & Tornado Threat
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, with immediate threats of life-threatening storm surge, major flooding rain, and an increased tornado risk, as issued by NWS Tallahassee.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, effective immediately as of October 9 at 11:05 AM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning specifically impacts Saint Marks and Panacea.
Residents are advised to prepare for life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground, with the window of concern lasting through Saturday morning. Evacuations ordered previously should be complete, and evacuees should remain in shelters away from surge flooding. Do not venture outside.
While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (25-35 mph with gusts to 40 mph), there is a potential for wind gusts up to 39-57 mph. Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for major flooding from an additional 4-8 inches of rain. Emergency plans should account for evacuations and rescues due to heavy rainfall. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also reports a very favorable situation for tornadoes, with the threat increasing. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. This warning is set to expire at 7:15 PM UTC today.
