Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Wakulla: Evacuate Immediately
Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, is under a Storm Surge Warning with potential for 4-6 feet of life-threatening storm surge through Saturday morning; immediate evacuation and sheltering are crucial.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 9, at 5:05 PM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding.
Alongside the storm surge, a Flood Watch and Tornado Watch are in effect. An additional 3-6 inches of rain is expected, with potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should account for major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Many tornadoes are possible, and residents should be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph), conditions may still be gusty. There are little to no additional wind impacts expected, and officials are assessing current wind impacts. Residents are advised to remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside.
