WAKULLA COUNTY, FL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, effective immediately as of October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This severe alert highlights life-threatening storm surge and potential for major flooding and tornadoes in the Saint Marks and Panacea areas.
Residents in surge-prone areas should remain sheltered in a safe location. Evacuations should be complete, with evacuees in designated shelters. Do not venture outside. The NWS forecasts 2-4 feet of storm surge above ground, with potential impacts unfolding around high tide. The wind threat remains below tropical storm force, with peak gusts of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rain possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. A Tornado Watch is also in effect, indicating conditions are favorable for several tornadoes. Be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
