Tropical Storm Warning for Coastal Wakulla: Life-Threatening Storm Surge Expected
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, with life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground, major flooding rain, and potential for tornadoes expected through Saturday morning.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:57 PM EDT. This warning remains in effect until October 10 at 7:00 AM UTC.
Residents in surge-prone areas must shelter against life-threatening storm surge of greater than 3 feet above ground. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, with evacuees in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Major flooding from an additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is expected. Emergency plans should account for potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A Tornado Watch is active, indicating conditions favorable for several tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be prepared to shelter quickly. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible, though sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force. Ensure emergency readiness should the forecast change.
