A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, with life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground possible; residents should evacuate if ordered and prepare for significant flooding and potential tornadoes.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, effective immediately until Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 7:15 PM UTC. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee warns of life-threatening storm surge possible, with a potential for 4-6 feet above ground inundation in surge-prone areas. The window of concern for storm surge is from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Residents in coastal areas should finalize evacuation efforts and flood preparations now. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to buildings, weakened escape routes, major beach erosion, and moderate damage to marinas and docks.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, potentially causing moderate flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. A favorable situation for tornadoes is also present; if a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
