Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Wakulla: Immediate Evacuation if Ordered
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, with life-threatening 4-6 foot storm surge possible from Friday morning to Saturday morning; immediate evacuation is advised if ordered.
Coastal Wakulla residents, including those in Saint Marks and Panacea, are under an immediate Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are given for your area, you must leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.
Significant impacts from storm surge are anticipated, including damage to buildings, weakened or washed-out escape routes, major beach erosion, and strong rip currents. Damage to marinas and small craft breaking from moorings are also expected.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 6-10 inches of rain possible, potentially leading to extensive flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with numerous road closures.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. While wind is expected to remain below tropical storm force (20-30 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions may still be gusty.
