ACTION REQUIRED: High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood Advisory for Island Communities
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Sunday morning, October 11, and a Coastal Flood Advisory until Monday, October 12, for Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces, and Calhoun Islands, per NWS Corpus Christi TX.
Residents and visitors in the Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Corpus Christi TX.
The High Rip Current Risk is in effect immediately and continues through Sunday morning, October 11, at 7:00 AM CDT. Dangerous rip currents can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper water, posing life-threatening risks. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float, not to swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always swim near a lifeguard if possible.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 1:00 AM CDT Monday, October 12, bringing minor coastal flooding. This may lead to flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures expected. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
These alerts were issued by the NWS Corpus Christi TX on October 10 at 12:54 PM CDT.
