Dangerous Rip Currents and Minor Coastal Flooding Expected Until 7 AM
A Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect until 7 AM CDT this morning for Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces, and Calhoun Islands counties, bringing dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding.
Residents and visitors in Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces, and Calhoun Islands counties should be aware of a Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Corpus Christi TX.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect until 7 AM CDT this morning, October 11, for Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands. Dangerous rip currents are expected, which can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore and pose a life-threatening risk.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 1 AM CDT Tuesday for the same areas, bringing minor coastal flooding. This may result in flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible.
The NWS advises that if caught in a rip current, you should relax and float, not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. If travel is necessary in affected areas, allow extra time, and do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take actions to protect flood-prone property.
