High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood Advisory for Island Communities
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through this evening and a Coastal Flood Advisory is active until 7 AM CDT Sunday for Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces, and Calhoun Islands, prompting warnings about dangerous currents and minor flooding.
Residents and visitors in Aransas Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, and Calhoun Islands counties are advised to exercise extreme caution today, October 9, due to a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Corpus Christi.
The High Rip Current Risk is in effect through this evening, October 9. Dangerous rip currents can sweep even experienced swimmers into deeper water, posing a life-threatening hazard. The NWS advises to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 7 AM CDT Sunday. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially affecting lots, parks, and roads. While only isolated road closures are anticipated, if travel is necessary, allow extra time and do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Residents in flood-prone areas should take necessary precautions to protect property.
