Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Autauga County: Act Immediately
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Autauga County, including Prattville, by the NWS Birmingham, with hazardous winds and significant flooding expected; act immediately to secure property and move to safe shelter.
AUTAUGA COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Autauga County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Prattville is specifically affected. This warning is in effect until 6:30 PM UTC today.
Residents should plan for hazardous winds of equivalent tropical storm force. Peak wind forecasts are 35-45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, expected from early Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.
Limited impacts are expected from the wind, including potential damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated, especially on bridges.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, is forecasted. This carries a significant potential for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures or weaken foundations.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. Stay informed of the latest forecast. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
