Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Collier County Until Saturday Evening

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Collier County until Saturday, October 10, at 8:00 PM EDT, with a High Rip Current Risk and isolated minor coastal flooding, urging swimmers to exercise extreme caution and drivers to avoid flooded roads.

Coastal Collier County residents and visitors are advised of a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Miami FL, effective immediately until Saturday, October 10, at 8:00 PM EDT. A High Rip Current Risk is in effect, posing dangerous conditions for swimmers.

Alongside the rip current risk, a Coastal Flood Statement warns of isolated minor coastal flooding through Saturday morning. This may result in some water on low-lying roads and properties. Drivers are instructed not to drive through flooded roadways.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers into deeper water. The NWS advises those caught in a rip current to relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If escape is not possible, face the shore and call or wave for help. Whenever possible, swim near a lifeguard.

This alert was issued on October 9 at 7:15 PM EDT.
