Coastal Collier County is under a Rip Current Statement until 8 PM EDT today, with dangerous rip currents expected and a warning for isolated minor coastal flooding.

Coastal Collier County residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution due to a Rip Current Statement in effect until 8:00 PM EDT today, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami has issued this statement, indicating a high risk of dangerous rip currents along the coast.

A Coastal Flood Statement is also in effect through Sunday morning, warning of isolated minor coastal flooding. This may lead to some water on low-lying roads and property.

Rip currents pose a significant danger, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The NWS advises the following safety measures:

  • Do not drive through flooded roadways.
  • Swim near a lifeguard.
  • If caught in a rip current, relax and float.
  • Do not swim against the current.
  • If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
  • If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

This Rip Current Statement was issued on October 10 at 12:53 AM EDT and is effective until 8:00 PM EDT tonight. The Coastal Flood Statement is in effect through Sunday morning. Residents and visitors in Coastal Collier County should remain vigilant and adhere to all safety warnings.
