CLAY COUNTY, AL – Residents in Clay County, specifically Ashland, are urged to complete preparations now as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 10:05 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs and potential power outages.

Significant flooding rain is also a threat, with 2-4 inches of rain forecast, and localized higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompt evacuations, and make some roads impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

Additionally, the NWS states that conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should seek safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
