A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Clay County, including Ashland, effective October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT, bringing potential for high winds, significant flooding, and a few tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Clay County, including Ashland, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT. Residents are urged to complete preparations now as hazardous wind, significant flooding rain, and the potential for a few tornadoes are anticipated.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could cause limited damage to structures like porches and carports, lead to downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and all preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. One to three inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, are forecast, carrying a potential for moderate flooding. This may lead to evacuations, swollen rivers, and hazardous driving conditions. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
While the tornado threat has decreased, the situation remains somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Residents should include the potential for tornadoes in their emergency plans and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
