Clarke County is under a Tropical Storm Warning as of October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT, with dangerous winds and major flooding expected; residents must complete preparations and seek shelter immediately.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clarke County, including Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL as of October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT. The warning is in effect until 6:00 PM UTC today.
Residents should plan for dangerous winds with potential for 58 to 73 mph gusts. All remaining efforts to protect life and property must be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Significant damage to roofing, siding, porches, and carports is possible. Mobile homes, especially unanchored ones, may be damaged. Expect downed trees, impassable roads due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for the area, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. There is little to no storm surge threat and tornadoes are not expected.
