A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clarke County, including Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, at 1:02 PM CDT, and it is set to expire at 9:15 PM UTC.

Residents should prepare for dangerous winds with potential gusts up to 60 mph. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible. Unsecured objects may become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may snap or uproot, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages. All remaining efforts to protect life and property must be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. An additional 2-4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is expected, with potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter many structures.

There is no storm surge inundation forecast, and tornadoes are not expected. For local information, contact Clarke County EMA at 251-275-8775 or visit clarkecountyal.com/emergency-management. For additional storm impacts and graphics, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
