Residents in the San Diego County Mountains, including Julian and Pine Valley, should immediately prepare for potential tropical storm conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective October 9 at 8:23 PM PDT.

Strong winds are anticipated, with forecasts of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph. Prepare for hazardous wind and move to safe shelter before conditions worsen. Limited damage to property, tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. For wind, the NWS advises completing all property protection efforts as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. This presents a potential for major flooding, and emergency plans should include the likelihood of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately to prevent serious injury or loss of life. Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and rescues, with rivers potentially overflowing and destructive runoff in mountain areas. Driving conditions will become dangerous due to submerged roads and potential road closures.

Tornadoes are not expected. For more information and updates, visit sdcountyemergency.com.
