Residents in San Diego County Coastal Areas are urged to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA. The warning is effective from today, October 5, at 11:29 AM PDT and remains in effect until 8:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with high temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to lower 90s at the beaches, and mid-90s to around 100 degrees for the mesas and higher coastal terrain. Nights will offer little relief, with very warm low temperatures in the upper 60s to mid-70s. The NWS emphasizes that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during such extreme heat events.

To stay safe, residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and avoid direct sun exposure. Please check on relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be vulnerable. It is critical to never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. The NWS also advises caution for drivers of high-profile vehicles due to strong winds.
