A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:02 PM CDT. Residents in Butler, Lisman, and Silas should move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service Mobile AL, expires at 9:15 PM UTC today.

Expect peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and sheds is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential power outages. Roads may become impassable due to debris. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated, especially on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, creating a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For local information, contact Choctaw County EMA at 205-459-2153 or visit their Facebook page.
