Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Choctaw County, Prepare for Hazardous Wind

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County, effective immediately from October 9 at 3:55 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This warning affects Butler, Lisman, and Silas. Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous wind conditions begin. The warning is set to expire on October 9 at 7:00 PM CDT.
Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. There is potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Limited impacts are expected, including damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, as well as broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of approximately 1 inch expected. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could impact structures and roads. Driving conditions may become hazardous in affected areas.
