Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Choctaw County: Prepare for Hazardous Winds
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Choctaw County, including Butler, Lisman, and Silas, until 3:00 PM CDT today, October 9th, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding rain expected; residents should finalize preparations and seek safe shelter.
Choctaw County residents, particularly in Butler, Lisman, and Silas, are urged to complete all property protection efforts immediately as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL issued the watch at 6:53 AM CDT today, October 9th, and it remains in effect until 3:00 PM CDT.
Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to porches, sheds, unanchored mobile homes, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and some structures could experience flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
