Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Choctaw County: Prepare for Hazardous Winds and Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Choctaw County, including Butler, Lisman, and Silas, with hazardous winds and moderate flooding expected; residents should prepare immediately and secure property.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County, including Butler, Lisman, and Silas, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective today, October 9, at 10:00 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.
Residents should complete all remaining efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Peak winds are forecast at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is anticipated. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding; evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Hazardous driving conditions are expected due to moving water on roads and potential road closures.
The NWS Mobile AL does not expect tornadoes at this time. For more information, contact Choctaw County EMA at 205-459-2153 or visit www.facebook.com/lindsey.ema. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This warning expires today, October 9, at 6:00 PM UTC.
