A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, as of October 9 at 9:49 PM CDT. Residents in Butler, Lisman, and Silas should complete property protection efforts quickly and move to safe shelter as hazardous winds are expected.
Peak winds are forecast to be 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Impacts could include damage to sheds and unanchored mobile homes, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.
Additionally, moderate flooding rain is anticipated, with around 1 inch of additional rainfall. Emergency plans should account for the potential for moderate flooding, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time, but showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. This warning is effective until October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC.
