A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Cherokee and Plymouth Counties in Iowa, effective immediately until 1:15 AM CDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls, SD, issued the warning at 12:46 AM CDT today, October 9, 2026.
Residents in the affected areas, particularly near Remsen and Marcus, should seek shelter immediately. The NWS reports a severe thunderstorm located near Remsen, moving east at 20 mph, with a primary hazard of two-inch hail. This hail size has been publicly reported and can cause injury to people and animals outdoors, as well as damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles.
The storm is expected to be near Remsen around 12:50 AM CDT and Marcus around 1:05 AM CDT. Oyens is also in the path of this severe thunderstorm. Anyone outdoors must move to shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm has produced dangerous hail.
