Residents in northern Cherokee County and southern O'Brien County, Iowa, should seek immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls. The warning is in effect until 3:30 AM CDT today, October 9, 2026.

At 2:44 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles north of Cleghorn, moving east at 30 mph. This storm is capable of producing quarter-size hail, with potential for damage to vehicles.

Locations that will be impacted include Larrabee around 3:05 AM CDT, and Calumet. The National Weather Service advises staying inside a well-built structure and away from windows. Report severe weather to your nearest law enforcement agency or the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls, SD.
