Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Shelter Now for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Ida

Residents in southwestern Buena Vista County, central Cherokee County, and northeastern Ida County are urged to seek immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls. The warning is in effect until 11:15 PM CDT tonight, October 8.

At 10:27 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Cherokee, moving southeast at 30 mph. This storm is capable of producing half dollar size hail, with damage to vehicles expected. Radar has indicated this hazard.

Impacted areas include Cherokee around 10:35 PM CDT, Quimby around 10:40 PM CDT, and Aurelia around 10:50 PM CDT. Other locations potentially affected are Meriden, Alta, and Storm Lake. Residents should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows.
