Residents in Cherokee, Iowa, are advised to immediately seek shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Sioux Falls, SD. The warning is in effect from 1:18 AM CDT until 1:45 AM CDT today, October 9.

At 1:18 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Cleghorn, approximately 10 miles west of Cherokee, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is producing half-dollar sized hail, with damage to vehicles expected.

Affected areas include Cleghorn and Marcus around 1:20 AM CDT, and Cherokee around 1:40 AM CDT. Meriden is also within the impacted zone. The NWS confirms this storm has produced large hail.

All residents in the affected areas should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. Report severe weather to your nearest law enforcement agency or the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls, SD.
