Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Cherokee, Plymouth Counties Until 1:15 AM CDT
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of Cherokee and Plymouth Counties until 1:15 AM CDT, with ping pong ball-sized hail expected. Seek immediate shelter.
Residents in west central Cherokee County and northeastern Plymouth County are advised to seek shelter immediately. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning effective until 1:15 AM CDT on October 9, 2026.
At 12:24 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles southwest of Remsen, moving east at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing ping pong ball-sized hail, according to radar indications. The NWS warns that people and animals outdoors could be injured, and damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles is expected.
The storm is anticipated to impact Le Mars around 12:25 AM CDT and Remsen around 12:35 AM CDT. Other areas that may be affected include Oyens and Marcus.
All individuals in the warned areas should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. Report severe weather to your nearest law enforcement agency or the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls SD.
