Rip Current Warning Issued for Local Beaches Until 8 PM Tonight
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for coastal Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, McIntosh, Beaufort, and Coastal Jasper counties until 8 PM EDT tonight, warning of dangerous rip currents. Swim near a lifeguard and know how to react if caught in a current.
Beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution today, October 10, as a Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal areas of Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, and McIntosh counties in Georgia, as well as Beaufort and Coastal Jasper counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, SC, issued the statement at 10:30 AM EDT, and it remains in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening.
Dangerous rip currents are expected, posing a significant risk to swimmers. Rip currents can quickly pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
To ensure safety, the NWS advises swimming only near a lifeguard. If you are caught in a rip current, the primary instruction is to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
