Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Areas Until 8 PM Tonight
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for coastal Georgia and South Carolina until 8 PM EDT tonight, warning of dangerous rip currents; swimmers are advised to exercise extreme caution and follow safety guidelines.
A Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal areas of South Carolina and Georgia, effective immediately until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, October 10, 2026. This alert, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC, warns of dangerous rip currents that can pose a significant risk to swimmers.
Affected areas include Coastal Bryan, Coastal Chatham, Coastal Liberty, and Coastal McIntosh in Georgia, as well as Beaufort, Coastal Colleton, Charleston, and Coastal Jasper in South Carolina.
The NWS advises all beachgoers to exercise extreme caution. Rip currents can quickly pull even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. To ensure your safety, always swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. Instead, if possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling out or waving.
