The National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans has issued an Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Lower St. Bernard Parish, effective immediately. This warning is for Yscloskey, Delacroix, and Shell Beach. Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Residents in these areas are advised to leave immediately if evacuation orders are given to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed without delay. Significant impacts are expected, including inundation with storm surge flooding, damage to buildings near the coast, and potential weakening or washing out of escape routes.

In addition to storm surge, winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. Prepare for hazardous wind and limited damage to property such as porches, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Complete all preparations now before winds become hazardous.

Little to no impacts are expected from flooding rain or tornadoes. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency. This warning was issued on October 8 at 4:03 AM CDT and expires today at 12:15 PM UTC.
