Residents across central and southern Arizona should prepare for a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix, effective from 8 AM to 5 PM MST on Sunday, October 11.

South winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. This advisory impacts the Aguila Valley, Northwest Valley, Tonopah Desert, Gila Bend, Buckeye/Avondale, Cave Creek/New River, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, New River Mesa, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, Rio Verde/Salt River, East Valley, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, Southeast Valley/Queen Creek, Superior, Northwest Pinal County, West Pinal County, Apache Junction/Gold Canyon, Tonto Basin, Mazatzal Mountains, Pinal/Superstition Mountains, Sonoran Desert National Monument, San Carlos, Dripping Springs, Globe/Miami, and Southeast Gila County.

The NWS warns that these strong winds can create difficult driving conditions, particularly for larger vehicles and those traveling along roads with crosswinds. Unsecured light objects may become airborne. Additionally, strong winds over desert areas could lead to briefly lowered visibilities due to blowing dust or sand.

Drivers are advised to use extra caution, especially those operating high-profile vehicles. Secure any outdoor items that could be moved by strong winds.
