A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for north central Pima County and southwestern Pinal County by the National Weather Service in Tucson. This warning is in effect immediately until 8:15 PM MST tonight, October 10.
Residents in the affected areas should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. Seek shelter immediately inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.
At 7:23 PM MST, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles east of Santa Rosa, moving north at 35 mph. The primary hazard is 60 mph wind gusts, which radar indicates could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include Santa Rosa, Covered Wells, Anegam, North Komelik, Palo Verde Stand, Ak Chin, Queens Well, No:ligk, Cababi, Comobabi, Sil Nakya, Santa Rosa Ranch, San Luis - Sells District, Mountain Village, San Luis, Rincon, Sikul Himathk, and Silver Bell. This also includes Route 86 between mile markers 89 and 103.
Continuous cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Wind damage with this storm will occur before any rain or lightning.
