Thomas Clyde Rhoads, Former Cape Coral City Council Member and Korean War Veteran, Passes Away at 88

Thomas Clyde Rhoads, a lifelong resident and dedicated public servant of our community, passed away on February 28, 2026, at the age of 88. Rhoads left a significant mark on Cape Coral through his extensive involvement in local affairs and his commitment to civic duty.

Rhoads served three terms on the city council from 1980 to 1986. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in establishing the downtown revitalization project in the early 1980s, an initiative that shaped the core of our city. His efforts helped lay the groundwork for the vibrant downtown area residents enjoy today.

Beyond his public service, Rhoads was a veteran of the Korean War, having served proudly in the United States Army. He also dedicated over two decades as a volunteer at the local historical society, preserving and sharing our community's rich past. His commitment to both his country and local heritage exemplified his character.

Rhoads is survived by his wife, Eleanor, two children, and four grandchildren. A memorial service for Thomas Clyde Rhoads took place on March 15, 2026, at St. Michael's Church, where family, friends, and community members gathered to honor his memory and contributions.
