Cape Coral Police Arrest 3 Drivers for DUI in Overnight Operation

Cape Coral Police arrested three drivers for driving under the influence during an eight-hour enforcement operation June 12.

Officers conducted 74 traffic stops between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., issuing 55 citations and making seven arrests total. They cited 25 drivers for speeding, six for distracted driving, and six for other criminal violations. Officers issued 40 moving violations and 15 non-moving citations, and gave warnings to 27 drivers.

The Florida Department of Transportation funded the operation through a sub-grant aimed at reducing crashes and injuries. Cape Coral ranks seventh among 38 agencies statewide in impaired driving fatalities and serious injuries, according to the Highway Safety Matrix.

Cape Coral Police partnered with FDOT's Traffic Safety Office to conduct the saturation patrol. The department plans additional impaired driving enforcement operations using state grant funding.
