LCEC Energy Tips: Lower AC Costs in Cape Coral

Staff Writer

LCEC Urges Cape Coral Residents to Dial Back Thermostats as Summer Bills Spike

The Lee County Electric Cooperative issued energy-saving advice May 19 as Southwest Florida temperatures climb and air conditioning costs mount for Cape Coral residents.

LCEC recommends setting thermostats to 78 degrees. Each degree lower adds 8 to 12 percent to cooling expenses. The wider the gap between outside and inside temperatures, the harder an AC unit works and the more electricity it consumes.

Residents can cut cooling costs by closing blinds and curtains during the day to block heat and by checking AC filters monthly, replacing them as needed to keep units running efficiently.
