An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for Imperial County West and Imperial Valley from Thursday afternoon to Friday evening, with temperatures up to 109°F expected; residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Residents of Imperial County West and the Imperial Valley are urged to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ. The warning is effective from Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 12:33 PM MST until Friday, October 9, 2026, at 8:00 PM MST.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures forecast to reach between 104 and 109 degrees Fahrenheit. This level of heat poses a Major Heat Risk, significantly increasing the potential for heat-related illnesses.
The NWS advises individuals to take extra precautions, especially those who work or spend time outdoors. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening hours when possible. It is crucial to recognize the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
For those working outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. If someone is overcome by heat, move them immediately to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911 without delay.
Public cooling shelters may be available in some areas. Residents are encouraged to consult county officials for more detailed information on cooling center locations.
