Unincorporated Amelia Island Tree Ordinance
On August 9, 2021, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance No. 2021-012, referred to as the "Unincorporated Amelia Island Tree Protection and Replacement Ordinance". The purpose of this ordinance is to provide standards and regulations to ensure a minimum number of trees on any lot or parcel, protect and preserve native tree species, protect and preserve the natural landscape, foster and encourage maintenance of natural vegetation, and minimize loss of trees to development within the unincorporated areas of Amelia Island. A tree poses an unacceptable risk if removal is the only means of practically mitigating its risk below moderate, as determined by the tree risk assessment procedures outlined in Best Management Practices - Tree Risk Assessment, Second Edition (2017)."

Protection of Minor Injunction Database An amendment to F.S. 28.2221- Electronic access to official records, effective July 1, 2024, requires each county recorder or clerk of the court to make publicly available on their official website the identity as well as the fact that a final judgment for an injunction for the protection of a minor under F.S. 741.30, F.S. 784.046, or F.S. 784.0485 has been entered against that respondent, unless the respondent is a minor. Any information not made available by the county recorder or clerk of the court before July 1, 2024, must be made publicly available on the official website if the affected party identifies the information and requests that such information be added for general public display. STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO SEARCH THE DATABASE: 1. Select 'Click Here to Search' above to open a separate page to search. 2. To conduct the search, input the individual's last name followed by their first name. You can also search by a partial name or keep the field empty to retrieve all entries. 3. The results will populate under the search bar with the Name, Instrument, Date, Book/Page, Case Number, and Document. REQUEST THE ADDITION OF INFORMATION ADDED FOR GENERAL PUBLIC DISPLAY Any person has a right to request that a county recorder or clerk of the court add information to the searchable database on the county recorder’s or clerk of the court’s official website if that information involves the identity of a respondent against whom a final judgment for an injunction for the protection of a minor is entered, unless the respondent is a minor. Public Access to Court Records The Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office offers members of the general public access to court records through our Online Court Records Search tool, in accordance with our disclaimers. Access for Attorneys of Record Attorneys of Record may request enhanced access to certain court records by submitting an Attorney of Record Registration Agreement to the Information Technology Department of the Clerk & Comptroller’s Office at 14236 6th Street, Dade City, FL 33523-3414. Support for Attorneys of Record with questions regarding their subscription can be accessed by calling (352) 521-4542. After approval of a user’s registration request, the Clerk will notify the user of a unique login ID and password to access the permitted court records. The user will select the attorney access option through our Online Court Records Search tool, in accordance with our disclaimers. Anti-Discrimination Policy
Anti-Discrimination Policy – Federal and State Laws. The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida adheres to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment and educational programs/activities and strives affirmatively to provide equal opportunity for all as required by: Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964- prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended-prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, or national origin. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972- prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender. Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) as amended- prohibits discrimination on the basis of age with respect to individuals who are at least 40. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 as amended- prohibits gender discrimination in payment of wages to women and men performing substantially equal work in the same establishment. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973- prohibits discrimination against the disabled. Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)- prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, public service, public accommodations and telecommunications. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA)- requires covered employers to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to “eligible” employees for certain family and medical reasons. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978- prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Florida Educational Equity Act (FEEA)- prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, gender, national origin, marital status, or handicap against a student or employee. Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992- secures for all individuals within the state freedom from discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status. Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA)- prohibits discrimination against employees or applicants because of genetic information. Boy Scouts of America Equal Access Act of 2002– no public school shall deny equal access to, or a fair opportunity for groups to meet on school premises or in school facilities before or after school hours, or discriminate against any group officially affiliated with Boy Scouts of America or any other youth or community group listed in Title 36 (as a patriotic society). Veterans are provided re-employment rights in accordance with P.L. 93-508 (Federal Law) and Section 295.07 (Florida Statutes), which stipulate categorical preferences for employment.In Addition: School Board Policies 1362, 3362, 4362, and 5517- Prohibit harassment and/or discrimination against students, employees, or applicants on the basis of sex, race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender, gender identification, social and family background, linguistic preference, pregnancy, citizenship status, and any other legally prohibited basis. Regulations
The following regulations apply to all persons appointed to City boards, commissions, and committees (in the text below, the term "boards" applies to "boards, commissions and committees"): Members must be legally registered to vote. No one may serve more than 3 consecutive terms on a single board except when: appointed to a partial term that is less than 0.5 of the normal term for that board the city manager waives the requirement for members of regulatory boards where special circumstances warrant extending the appointment when serving on a pension board No 1 may serve on more than 2 boards at the same time, except that: no 1 may serve on more than 1 pension board no 1 serving on a regulatory board may serve on any other board No member of the immediate family of a city commissioner may serve on a city board. No member of the immediate family of a municipal officer (City Manager, City Clerk, or department head) may serve on a board which relates to the area of responsibility of that municipal officer. A member who is absent from 3 consecutive meetings will automatically be dismissed from the board unless the other board members have excused the absence by a motion duly passed and recorded in the official minutes. No board member who is present at a meeting may abstain from voting in regard to any official decision, ruling or other act taken by the membership unless that member is prohibited from voting on a measure which will financially benefit him or his employer. In such cases of voting conflict, the member must file a Memorandum of Voting Conflict (Form 8b) and publicly state the nature of his interest prior to the vote. A board member must file a Statement of Financial Interests for every year in which he serves on a board unless the Florida Commission on Ethics has determined that the board is solely advisory in nature. A member retiring from a board must provide written notice to the City Clerk. A member retiring from a board must return copies of city codes and other official materials to the City Clerk.

Criminal Courts
Felony cases are crimes of a more serious nature, punishable by death or imprisonment for more than one year. There are first-, second-, and third-degree felonies with different penalties for each degree. Misdemeanor cases involve lesser crimes and/or infractions and are punishable by fine, penalty, forfeiture, or imprisonment not in a state penitentiary for less than one year. Misdemeanors are categorized as first- or second-degree. Felony, misdemeanor, and criminal traffic case files are available for public viewing unless the case has been sealed, expunged, or is confidential by law. New Town Ordinance Addressing Use of Micromobility Vehicles
On July 29th Town Council approved a new ordinance prohibiting the use of e-scooters, e-bikes, and e-motorcycles by anyone under the age of 16. The ordinance additionally prohibits use of these vehicles on town sidewalks. Ordinance 1145 (PDF)

Criminal Court | Sumter County Clerk of the Courts Skip to content Close search panel Type your search phrase and tap enter to search or ESC to exit Criminal Courts Circuit Court The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over all defendants accused of committing crimes that have been designated by the State Legislature as felonies. A felony is a criminal offense punishable by death or imprisonment in a state penitentiary. The Circuit Court also has jurisdiction over all cases in which a child is alleged to have committed a delinquent act or violation of law. A law enforcement officer files a delinquent complaint when a juvenile is alleged to have committed a felony, misdemeanor, contempt of court, or violation of a local ordinance. County Court The County Court has jurisdiction over all defendants accused of committing crimes that have been designated as misdemeanors. A misdemeanor is a criminal offense that is punishable by imprisonment in a county correctional facility. The County Court also has jurisdiction over criminal traffic cases. Criminal Traffic Laws, which are defined by the Florida Rules of Court as a violation that may subject a defendant upon conviction to incarceration. Procedural Overview First Appearance If you are unable to bond out of jail within 24 hours, you will appear before a county judge for a first appearance hearing. During these hearings, the judge will set bond on misdemeanor and criminal traffic cases and determine if you qualify for legal representation by the Public Defender’s Office. The judge may accept a plea on a local misdemeanor or criminal traffic violation. If you are arrested on a felony case, the court will only address bond and attorney status, and your case will be scheduled for an arraignment before a circuit court judge. If you are arrested over the weekend, your first appearance hearing will be held at the Sumter County Jail before a judge. The judge will address the bond and attorney status with you. Your case will be scheduled for an arraignment before a county judge on misdemeanor and criminal traffic cases and before a circuit judge for felony cases. Arraignments An arraignment is a hearing where a defendant is advised of the charges filed against him/her and allowed to enter a plea. If you enter a plea of guilty or no contest, you will be sentenced at that time. If you plead not guilty, your case will be set for a Status Conference, Pre-Trial, Change of Plea Session, and Jury Trial. If you plead not guilty to a violation of probation charge, then your case will be set for a Violation of Probation Hearing. Arraignment Court Dates The Clerk’s Office cannot change a court date. If there is a problem with your date, you may want to consult an attorney or contact the Judge assigned to your case. Sentencing The court may sentence you to serve time in the Sumter County Jail, and is required to impose court costs and may assess a fine on each count as charged. The Court has the authority to suspend your driving privileges for traffic violations and some misdemeanors. All fine and court costs are payable to the Clerk of Court by cash, cashier’s check, money order, or Credit Card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Check Cards with the appropriate insignia. Credit Card payments will not be accepted over the phone. Personal checks are not acceptable for fines or court costs. Trials All sessions of court are open to the public, unless a particular judge orders his courtroom closed. Failure to Appear Any Defendant who fails to appear as required by the Court may have his or her bail revoked and a warrant issued for his/her arrest. Police Statutes / Codes Move Over for Police - It's the Law Florida law requires motorists, whenever they observe an authorized emergency vehicle or a wrecker parked roadside with flashing emergency lights, to vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle or wrecker when driving on a highway with two or more lanes traveling in the direction of the emergency vehicle. If such movement cannot be accomplished safely, or when traveling on a two-lane roadway, the driver must slow down to a speed of 20 mph less than the posted speed limit. 316.126 Operation of vehicles and actions of pedestrians on approach of authorized emergency vehicle. (Summary) (1) (a) Upon the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle, while en route to meet an existing emergency, the driver of every other vehicle shall, when such emergency vehicle is giving audible signals by siren, exhaust whistle, or other adequate device, or visible signals by the use of displayed blue or red lights, yield the right-of-way to the emergency vehicle and shall immediately proceed to a position parallel to, and as close as reasonable to the closest edge of the curb of the roadway, clear of any intersection and shall stop and remain in position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, unless otherwise directed by any law enforcement officer. (b) When an authorized emergency vehicle making use of any visual signals is parked or a wrecker displaying amber rotating or flashing lights is performing a recovery or loading on the roadside, the driver of every other vehicle, as soon as it is safe: 1. Shall vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle or wrecker when driving on an interstate highway or other highway with two or more lanes traveling in the direction of the emergency vehicle or wrecker, except when otherwise directed by a law enforcement officer. If such movement cannot be safely accomplished, the driver shall reduce speed as provided in subparagraph 2. 2. Shall slow to a speed that is 20 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour or greater; or travel at 5 miles per hour when the posted speed limit is 20 miles per hour or less, when driving on a two-lane road, except when otherwise directed by a law enforcement officer. (2) Every pedestrian using the road right-of-way shall yield the right-of-way until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, unless otherwise directed by any police officer.
