Historic Districts
Copies of Historic District documents and maps may be obtained by clicking the boxes below. Alternatively, printed copies may be requested and purchased by contacting the department. Old Town Historic District Originally the site of the town of Fernandina, Old Town has the unique distinction of being the last Spanish city platted in the Western Hemisphere. Retaining the 1811 plat, as well as the historic homes in the area, is of special importance. Downtown Historic District When David Yulee established the railroad running from Fernandina to Cedar Key, the town shifted from Old Town to its present location. Buildings in the Downtown district reflect this late 19th and early 20th century development. Downtown Historic District Travel Guide - Courtesy of the Amelia Island Tourist Development Council In addition, the Amelia Island Lighthouse, the Peck Center, and the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home are individually designated historic district sites. Properties within the historic districts are protected through design guidelines, which are administered by the Historic District Council. In addition, the Historic District Council is charged with administering the CRA Design Guidelines for projects located in the City's Community Redevelopment Area.

Historic District Council (HDC) Member Binder
Welcome to the Historic District Council (HDC). The Historic District Council is the City’s primary agency responsible for furthering historic preservation within the city. As a board member there are multiple resources that you will often reference in your research and decision-making process. In previous years, new board members were provided with a large binder that contained many of these items such as the Land Development Code, District Guidelines, etc. In an effort to conserve resources and ensure our board members have the most up to date information, we have migrated this collection of resources to a digital format. This “virtual board member binder” is intended to serve as a central information point to the most commonly used board resources. We hope this new format will make your service to the board easier and more enjoyable. Sheriff's Deputies Connect with Students at Wildwood Elementary
In an effort to build stronger community ties, deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office visited Wildwood Elementary School on Tuesday. The officers participated in a "Meet Your Deputy" event, answering student questions and demonstrating some of their equipment. The aim was to demystify law enforcement and encourage open communication with young residents. The children appeared to enjoy the interaction, and the Sheriff's Office looks forward to similar community outreach opportunities.
